Dear Friends,
I am based in Dubai UAE, and am on the lookout for a 928. i have found one on the local advertisement, can be seen here: http://tnydu.biz/DOivLX.

The car is imported to Dubai from France, and has some mechanical work done. I am going to see it in 1 hour today. In france is there a history of cars that can be searched by VIN (chassis number) and pay some money. http://www.carfax.eu" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is something that I know, but maybe you know better?

Also this is automatic, blue colour. paint is requiring attention and some scratches.

Merci ;)

Siddharth Patel

Vu l'etat du cuir je doute qu'elle n'ait que 49 000 km ...

Hi Siddharth,

welcome on board!

You can give us the VIN and we will try to find some information about this car.
THis small mileage is not so good: The car didn't run regularly. What about maintenance?

Sorry, it's quite too far to go to check the car with you ;-)

Regards,

Ok I saw the car. It is Japanese origin, exported to France, and then exported to UAE. All I have some history of the 928 in UAE. It was initially owned by French aircraft engineer, who sold to another aircraft engineer, and sold to the current owner.

Current owner has various bills, parts are bought from porsche dealer in Dubai, and installed by 2 other garages.

Timing belt replaced 400kms ago, and needs adjustment at the 2500kms as per porsche spec. Brake master cylinder changed and pads. Fuel injectors cleaned. Rear axle boots changed, due to grease leaking from boots. A/C compressor refurbished, and it is now cooling. Transmission oil changed, dextron 2 grade. New battery and new tyres "falken" brand.

One thing for 1988 s4, it does not have digital trip information, I thought 1988 did?
When car is shifting gears, it is automatic, there is a slip/jerk when changing up gears.....current owner says this is due to the timing belt, once at 2500kms they should be adjusted with proper tools, and this will disapper.

Problems:
Paint is poor around driver door and passenger, rear bumper. Fan cowl is not in good shape, some oil leak around the valve head. Dashboard is cracked around the centre, right below rear view mirror. Trip meter, the kilometers, is not working....i know this is issue with small plastic gear, as my old 500SL. Oil pressure gauge is not working. Rear tailgate latch not working, seller says, after changing the batter this issue occurred. Wing mirrors are moving, only if you press button for some time, must be bad contacts or ground. Interior carpets are dirty, and seats need cleaning/care. Electric seats are not good operation, maybe due to dirt in the track.

Let me know what you think about the shifting of the gear and oil please, all else is normal for this year.....and ofcourse the 49,000kms!!!

Digital dashboard arrived during 1988, so it's possible.

I don't know the automatic gearbox behaviour but I don't think it's link to timing belt.

This car seems in poor state, maybe it's better to try to find another one.
But I can imagine that's it's not easy in your country!

Good luck!

Dear Alex.b
thank you for your thoughts.....yes the transmission to the timing belt is not mechanically logical to me. i will keep a distance from this car.

Best Regards,

Siddharth
